Coaches Versus Cancer News:
Oregon High School Athletic Directors,
On behalf of the Executive Boards for the Oregon Athletic Coaches
Association (OACA) and the Oregon Athletic Directors Association (OADA),
I would like to introduce to you the *2nd Annual OACA/OADA Coaches vs.
Cancer Program*. Because cancer has touched so many in our coaching
community, Coaches vs. Cancer offers a unique opportunity to fight the
disease. Through integrated fundraising activities and public awareness
campaigns, participating schools can truly make a difference in the
fight against cancer and raise awareness in their communities about the
importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and making healthy
lifestyle choices.
*The OACA & OADA would like for schools to choose either the week of
January 23 - 27 or January 30 - Feb. 3 to promote Cancer Awareness
throughout their community.*There are various ways you can use your
voice and leadership to help fight cancer. Each school’s Cancer
Awareness Week should be structured to best fit their individual needs.
Please see the attached flyer for program goals and activities that your
school could participate in.
We would appreciate your support in seeing the information gets to the
appropriate individuals in your school, whether it be the principal,
student activities director, or winter coaches (Boys/Girls Basketball,
Swimming, Wrestling).
If your school chooses to participate in a fundraising activity, you can
donate the money raised in one of two ways:
1. You can donate to a local cancer program of your choice. We would
appreciate knowing how much and who to so we can tally a total amount
state-wide. *Close to $8000 was raised last year!*
2. Send the funds to the OACA office and all monies will be donated in a
lump sum from the OACA/OADA to the American Cancer Society. Please have
all monies to the OACA by Wednesday, March 15^th .
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Please join the Fight against Cancer & Support "Coaches vs. Cancer" Week!
